On Tuesday 14 January 2020 Roger Hitchen, a long-time teacher and lecturer in art and design, brought along a selection of his beautifully-crafted portraits. He explained his preparatory work and showed the great variety of materials and applicators he uses. He demonstrated how he starts with the subject's eyes and, using Panpastels and pastel pencils, gradually builds up very soft tones and effects.
